Cop among two gunned down in Karachi’s DHA

KARACHI: Two people, a policeman among them, were killed while another was wounded in a firing incident in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on Saturday night, ARY News reported.

According to police, the firing incident took place in DHA Phase VI’s Khayaban-e-Bukhari when armed men in a Vigo opened fire at a policeman, killing him on the spot and wounding two passers-by.

The injured were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) where one of them succumbed to his injuries.

The killed cop was identified as Khalid, a police constable who was posted in Darakhsha police station. He was returning home after performing his duty when he came under the attack. Another deceased was identified as Ramzan.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South Pir Muhammad Shah said two men in a Vigo opened fire. They both seemed to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol as per eyewitnesses, he added.

The attackers escaped the crime scene leaving their vehicle, he said, adding weapons were seized from it.

Meanwhile, SP Clifton Suhai Aziz Talpur said the police had traced the owner of the vehicle with the help of its registration number. Raids were conducted at the residence of the owner but so far no arrest was made, she added.
