Govt taking all steps to eradicate child labour from country: Alvi

ISLAMABAD: President Arif Alvi has said the government was taking every step to eradicate child labour from the country, ARY News reported.

Addressing the launching ceremony of National Child Labour Survey here, Alvi said inadequate education among masses and health issues were the common problems of the country. He was of the view that constitution of Pakistan guaranteed full protection to rights of children.

The president said the government would fulfill its responsibility of protecting the child rights.

Arif Alvi said the important survey was being launched after a gap of 22 years and it would help government set its priorities.

He said: “we should also push child labourers towards education to let them have better future.”

Earlier, Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari said every child will have access to education, health and other basic rights. She said our ministry has introduced Domestic Workers Bill, aimed at the protection of rights of people working in households.

The minister said there was need to aware the people about their rights. She said data will be collected and a policy will be devised to end child labour.

Mazari said a helpline had also been launched by her ministry to address complaints regarding child labour. “The issue is not about the law, it’s about strict implementation of the law,” she stated.
