Fire guts Karachi restaurant; police officer faints while rescuing

KARACHI: A Karachi eatery was engulfed by the fire on Saturday afternoon and the restaurant was completely gutted in a blaze that lasted for four hours, ARY News reported.

The incident took place at Shaheed e Millat Road and the unfortunate restaurant was on the ground floor of a 10-storey residential building.

Fire Brigade and the Police reached the spot immediately for rescue activities and started evacuating the floors immediately above the restaurant and nearby shops.

During the rescure operation, Station House Officer (SHO) of Ferozabad Police Station Sarwar Commando fainted due to the thick layer of black smoke that had enveloped the restaurant’s surroundings.

He was promptly shifted to the hospital.

As many as four fire engines took part in extinguishing the fire, which was put down at around 7 PM.

What caused the fire could not be ascertained immediately, however, no loss of lives was reported despite the severity of the fire.

Fire Department told ARY News that the restaurant was now undergoing a cooling-down operation. “Cause of the fire would be better determined after cooling is completed”, said a Fire Department official.
