Police said that the company was a manufacturer of chicken feed from fishes where the incident took place. They said that the deaths were caused due to suffocation.

Owner of the factory was arrested, who, in his statement, told police that nobody was allowed to come closer to the pit.

Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Malir said that the company has been sealed till completion of an investigation into the incident. He said that the labourers ‘jumped’ into the factory’s pit to save one another.

Factory related accidents are common in Pakistan due to lack of security and rescue arrangements, which has claimed hundreds of lives so far due to the negligence of the government for lacking to implement safety policies.
