ISLAMABAD: Under the ongoing accountability drive of the incumbent government, Federal Minister for Communication and Postal Services Murad Saeed on Thursday announced to tighten noose around the alleged corruption of former minister Ahsan Iqbal.

“The time has come for Ahsan Iqbal to worry,” he said in a press conference while vowing to eliminate corruption under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Referring to the PM’s decision to establish a high-powered commission to probe corruption of last 10 years, Saeed said Ahsan Iqbal’s case will be the the first one to be investigated by the committee.

“The first project [of the Ministry of Communication and Postal Services] to be probed by the commission belongs to Ahsan Iqbal,” the minister told, adding that the case was already being pursued by the National Accountability Bureau as well.

He claimed that Iqbal, being the minister for planning in 2013, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the place of a minister for communication for the construction of the Multan-Sukkur motorway.

The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz government embezzled Rs 50 billion on every project in its tenure, he stated.

Saeed further apprised that his ministry will forward all cases of alleged corruption and embezzlement from past 10 years, to the prime minister within a week’s time after the formation of the probe commission.
