Police arrest 19 including groom for fireworks during wedding

JARANWALA: Police have arrested 19 people including groom for fireworks during wedding ceremony in Jaranwala, ARY News reported on Sunday.

A large number of the people who were involved in fireworks had fled from the scene.

Police have filed a first information report (FIR) against 120 people including 28 nominated. The FIR has been lodged under laws of attempted murder and interference in state affairs.

Following arrest of the groom, Umar Shareef, and other people, the wedding procession could not set out for bride’s house.

A police sub-inspector Mohammed Javed got injured as residents of the area resisted arrests.

The residents said police had captured several innocent people.

“They woke them up from sleep at home and then arrested them,” the residents said.

On February 24, a court had sent a groom and 13 others to prison on judicial remand over playing loud music in his wedding ceremony in Gujranwala.

According to the details, police on the complaint of his neighbors had raided at the wedding ceremony of Khalid, the groom, and apprehended the groom and 13 other people.

The groom and the other 13 people were produced before the court, which had sent them to jail on judicial remand.

A police officer had said that the marriage ceremony was postponed due to the groom’s detention.
