Police officer shot dead in Karachi’s Orangi area

KARACHI: A policeman was gunned down in Karachi’s Orangi Town area on Monday, ARY News reported.

According to DIG West, the officer Rizwan, who was assistant inspector of police, had come to the area for personal work where armed miscreants targeted him. The senior cop said Rizwan was also attacked in 2012 but those were attacks of a different nature.

The DIG said the police were investigating the case from all aspects. The funeral prayer of the cop was offered at Police Headquarters Garden.

The funeral prayer was attended by IGP Sindh Syed Kaleem Imam, DG Ranger Sindh, Muhammad Saeed, Additional IG Sukkur Dr Jameel, Zonal DIGs, senior police officers and a large number of citizens.

DIG west informed that killers of a policeman in Pak Colony had been arrested. “It is found during the probe that cop was shot dead before he could use his gun.”

Last month, police had claimed to have arrested a suspect involved in killing of a policeman in Karachi,. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) East Ghulam Azfar Mahesar told the journalists that the suspect, Kashif alias Kashi, during the investigations, had confessed the murder of a policeman.

He said that Kashif had allegedly killed a policeman, Ghulam Raza, in 2012, who was then deployed at Shah Faisal police station.
