Privatization minister calls on governor Sindh

KARACHI: Minister for Privatization Muhammad Mian Soomro called on Governor Sindh Imran Ismail on Sunday in Karachi and discussed matters pertaining to public sector performance.

During the meeting, Prime Minister’s package for the development in Karachi and other issues also came under discussion.

Talking to Muhammad Mian Soomro, governor Sindh said with the completion of federal funded project including Green Line Bus project the infrastructure of Karachi will improve.

Whereas Muhammad Mian Soomro said that the performance of government institutions can be improved with the inclusion of private sector.

Federal government had prepared 300 days development plan for Karachi, which comprises of the schemes to solve transport, water and municipal problems of the city, sources said on November 2.

Under the plan local trains would be operationalised in Karachi and a train will run from Landhi, Malir, Bin Qasim and Dhabeji stations after each 30 minutes, sources said.

The railways freight service will also become a part of the mega scheme. Cargo will be transported to the upcountry stations from Karachi under the Dhabeji freight project, sources further said.

Freight trains will carry cargoes from the East and West Wharf of Karachi Port.

A project to make the Northern Bypass of Karachi a double track highway is also a part of the development plan apart of a scheme to supply additional 350 MGD water to the city.

Sewerage problems and garbage disposal issues of the city will also be addressed through various projects of the plan, sources further said.
