KARACHI: In a press conference in Karachi, popular television personality and religious scholar Amir Liaquat formally announced to join Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), ARY News reported on Monday.
Addressing media alongside party chief Imran Khan and PTI’s Karachi leadership, Amir Liaquat announced that he feels PTI is the right place for “his brand of politics”.
He maintained that he has not joined Imran Khan but “Pakistan” as the PTI chief is fighting for a better Pakistan.
As Imran Khan welcomed his decision, Liaquat made it clear that it is a well thought out move and he will continue to work for the party till his last breath.
“This is the last party I have joined,” Liaquat said in reply to a question.
About why he joined politics again after claiming to leave it altogether in 2016, Amir Liaquat said that he actually left “Siah-sat” (dark or anti-people politics) not politics.
Aamir Liaquat Hussain, who was part of Muttahida Qaumi Movement till 2016, left the party after founder Altaf Hussain’s August 22, 2016 speech in which he urged his supporters to raise anti-Pakistan slogans and attack media houses.
“I apologise again and again from Pakistan and people of Pakistan. Nothing is more important to me than Pakistan,” Aamir Liaquat told ARY News anchor Kashif Abbasi on August 23.

Later in ARY News show 11th Hour, Aamir Liaquat also claimed that he is heartbroken and will never enter politics again.
Two days later, Aamir Liaquat again told ARY News’ anchor Kashif Abbasi that he is receiving death threats through SMS and phone calls after leaving MQM and announced that if he is killed, MQM London and Altaf Hussain will be responsible.
My only wish is to get buried in Pakistan flag,” said Amir Liaquat while responding to a question.
He requested the MQM’s on-panel leader, Khawaja Izharul Hassan, not to call him an “MQM martyr” after his death as his “life and death are only for Pakistan”.
