SHEIKHUPURA: A 12-year old maid on Friday approached newly inaugurated Child Safety Cell in Shiekhupura city of Punjab province and complained that her employers torture her and force her to starve, ARY News reported.
The girl named Neelum claimed that the owners of the house where she works used to beat her with kicks and punches and she was provided with little or no food despite working for hours. She revealed that her mother had taken a sum of Rs 72000 in exchange for her services.
The girl was working at the house of a trader named Nadeem for the last six months.
Incharge Child Safety Cell Mehboob Sarwar has confirmed torture marks on body of the maid.
He said family of the house where the young girl worked would thrash her over minor mistakes.
“We will hand over the case to the relevant police station and also convene owner of the house and her family and ensure the girl’s protection,” he said.
First Child Safety Cell (CSC) of Pakistan was inaugurated two weeks ago in Sheikhupura to help resolve issues related to children’s rights, sexual abuse, shelter for homeless/orphan children and underage marriages.
This cell will supervise all the judicial procedure of the accused until he is tried and punished.
DG CSC Kiran Khursheed said the girl would be presented before child protection court and handed over to her parents only after assurance of her education and protection.
