England, Australia win in Men’s Hockey World Cup

THE HAGUE: England defeated Malaysia while Australia eased past Belgium in their Men’s Field Hockey World Cup at Netherlands’ capital The Hague on Thursday, ARY News reports.

England defeated Malaysia 2-0 in their encounter yesterday.

Mark Gleghorne scored the opener for the British side in the fourth minute whereas Ashley Jackson scored the second for his side in the 67th minute to seal the victory.

Belgium received a 1-3 drubbing at the hands of Australia.

Chris Ciriello scored the first goal for the Australians in the seventh minute and Jacob Whetton doubled the lead in the ninth minute. Eddie Ockenden netted the third for Australia in the 36th minute.

A consolation goal for Belgium came when Sebastien Dockler netted the ball in the 46th minute.

Meanwhile, India drew 1-1 in their match against Spain.

Rupinder Singh scored the goal for the Indians in the 28th minute but Roc Oilva equalized for the Spanish siden in the 34th minute.
