FAISALABAD: Nurses in Faisalabad’s Civil Hospital tortured a ward boy over his alleged attempt to sexually assault a trainee nurse, ARY News reported.
According to reports, a ward boy named Sikander tried to sexually assault a trainee nurse in a hospital room but the nurse escaped and told about the incident to fellow nurses upon which they started beating the ward boy.
Nurses went on strike and protested outside the hospital after claiming that the Medical Superintendent (MS) is not taking action against the ward boy.
The hospital’s medical superintendent, on the other hand, told media that the ward boy was suspended and handed over to the police soon after the incident.
‘No Option But Self-Defense’
President of Young Nurses Association Punjab, Rozeena Manzoor, told ARY News that nurses are not provided with adequate security in hospitals and such cases are usually brushed under the carpet by the hospital authorities.
“The ward boy tried to assault the nurse during duty hours and his aides even attacked media trying to cover the incident, but in such cases, hospitals do not take prompt action and such men are either suspended or terminated but never punished for their crimes,” said Rozeena Manzoor, adding that the only option nurses are left with is self-defense.
The YNA President was of the view that hospital staff and doctors not only respect female doctors but they are also provided with adequate security but nurses, on the other hand, are mistreated both by staff and patients.
