Federal cabinet approves ban on TLP under anti-terrorism act: sources


ISLAMABAD: Federal cabinet on Thursday approved a ban on the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) under the anti-terrorism act, ARY NEWS reported quoting sources.

According to sources in the cabinet division, the approval from the federal cabinet to place a ban on the TLP was taken through a circulation summary after the interior ministry conveyed a summary in this regard.

The summary from the interior ministry has recommended a ban on the TLP owing to its violent activities in the aftermath of the arrest of its chief Saad Rizvi, which led to the martyrdom of two cops and injuries to more than 300 others.

PM Imran takes govt functionaries into confidence 

Later, Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired a meeting of the government functionaries and took them into confidence regarding the move to ban TLP.

According to sources, Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed briefed the meeting on the overall law and order situation and said that the TLP is declared a proscribed organization and would face a complete ban on any sort of activities.

Speaking during the meeting, Prime Minister Imran Khan lauded the sacrifices of the policemen and said that the spirit with which they played their role in restoring peace was commendable.

“Putting forward demands is the right of anyone, however, no one could be allowed to commit violence,” he said adding that the state could not be pressurized through such tactics.

The prime minister also directed federal ministers for interior and religious affairs to take the public into confidence regarding the decision taken by the government.

Noorul Haq Qadri to invite religious leaders for iftar dinner 

Moreover, the prime minister in a separate meeting with Religious Affairs Minister Pir Noorul Haq Qadri to take ulemas and clerics into confidence over the ban on the TLP.

The sources said that Pir Noorul Haq Qadri will invite the clerics on an iftar to take them into confidence.
