Flight operations suspended at Lahore Airport due to runway repair

LAHORE: The flight operations at Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore were suspended due to repair of the runway, ARY News reported.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the runway was immediately closed for the repair after a captain of Paris-Lahore bound flight informed the authorities about cracks in the runaway, which he witnessed at the time of landing.

“Repair of the runway was underway on war footing and it would be reopened around 2:30 pm today,” the CAA official said.

Meanwhile, passengers of Lahore-Karachi bound flight, PK-303, PK-751 Lahore-Oslo and PK-203 Lahore to Dubai bound flights were shifted to passenger’s lounge.

In November 2018, a PIA aircraft veered off the runway at Panjgur Airport, Balochistan.

As many as 57 passengers were aboard the flight PK-517 that was heading to Panjgur from Karachi, however, all the passengers remained safe, PIA spokesperson later said in a statement.

The incident occurred when the plane was touching down the runway and it got veered off the landing belt. According to reports, tyres of the aircraft were partially damaged in the incident.

CEO PIA, Air Marshal Arshad Malik, has also taken notice of the incident and sought report in this regard. He said anyone found responsible for the mishap would face action according to the law.
