KARACHI: The beleaguered national flag career, the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), often make it to newsrooms for one reason or another.
This time around, some pictures of a PIA flight kitchen have emerged, depicting how the kitchen staff handles food in utter disregard for food safety standards, endangering the health of hundreds of passengers who travel on the national flag career’s domestic and international flights.
In pictures, the staff can be seen handling the meal without wearing gloves, which, according to the international standards, serve the purpose of protecting food from human pathogens such as bacteria and virus.
Sources confided to ARY News that the food which is provided to passengers on domestic and international flights of the PIA is packed by kitchen staff with their naked hands, increasing the risk of contracting bacterial infection or any other disease in passengers.
These pictures have put a question mark on the national flag career’s seriousness in enforcing the standards aimed at ensuring safety of passengers. Previously, a number of complaints with regard to provision of stale food onboard PIA flights had surfaced.
When contacted, a spokesperson for the national flag career termed these images a conspiracy to dent the image of the crisis-hit airline.
He, however, maintained that the PIA kitchen staff strictly followed the food safety standards.
Meanwhile, the PIA management has taken notice of the images of the kitchen staff and ordered action against those violating the safety standards.
