ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Football Federation has donated prize money of 1.2 million rupees, won in the recently concluded South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Cup in Bangladesh, to the dam fund.
A delegation of the federation called on Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar in Islamabad on Wednesday and presented a cheque. The chief justice greatly appreciated their gesture.
The ‘Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand Dam Fund 2018’ was established by the federal government in pursuance of a Supreme Court order for raising funds for the construction of the two dams.
CJP Nisar was the first to donate money for the fund as on July 5 by depositing ten million rupees. The fund also collected over Rs3.7 billion to date.
The fund was merged with PM’s fund created by Imran Khan on September 7, and can receive donations and contributions from both domestic and international donors, individuals and companies and the general public.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Imran Khan thanked people of Karachi over their generous donations to the dam fund.The premier had headlined a fundraiser dinner at Governor House, where he had delivered a speech and raised an astounding Rs760 million for the projects.
On September 10, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa presented a cheque of over one billion rupees to the chief justice for dams fund.
The army chief also wrote a letter to the CJP information that the junior commissioned officers and soldiers will donate two days salary while army officers will give their one-day salary to the dam fund. He also mentioned that army welfare organizations also made donations for the fund.
