LONDON: A former British glamour model has been arrested on charges of links with a terror outfit Islamic State.
Kimberly Miners, 27, from Bradford, is a former model, but converted to Islam after the death of her father in 2010 and began wearing Muslim clothes, reported the Independent.
On Friday, she was detained and questioned on suspicion of possessing material likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, The Sunday Times reported. She was released the following day.
A spokeswoman for the North East Counter Terrorism Unit said: “As part of an ongoing investigation, officers have arrested a 27-year-old woman from Bradford on suspicion of the possession of terrorist material.”
Ms Miners, however, has denied having links to terrorism and supporting violence.
Social media accounts thought to be used by Ms Miners – whose adoptive Muslim name is Aicha – have links to suspected extremists and allegedly shared numerous videos depicting scenes of war and bombings. But charges are yet to be confirmed.
One video included a video of children being trained by an Isis militant, performing boxing drills and holding weapons.
Photos of a woman, presumed to be Ms Miners, were posted to one account showing her in a full veil which covers her eyes.
Earlier in September, some reports claimed that Ms Miners was being groomed to become a jihadi bride. In particular, she was thought to be communicating with a suspected Isis recruiter, Abu Usamah Al Britani.
She had said: “I’ve gone from glamour model to something completely different. But that again makes me wonder.
