Fresh spell of monsoon rains from today across country

KARACHI: A fresh spell of widespread monsoon rains with a greater intensity begins across the country from today.

A Met Office spokesman said in Islamabad that the monsoon has already made onset in the country from Monday but isolated heavy falls are expected in Islamabad, Upper Punjab, Lower Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Eastern Balochistan and Kashmir today and tomorrow.

The spokesman said the heavy falls may generate flash floods in the vulnerable areas particularly in Barsati Nullahs of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pothohar region, Gujranwala, DG Khan divisions and Kashmir.

He said due to intermittent rains, there is also risk of landslides in hilly areas including Malakand and Hazara divisions, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.

The spokesman advised all the concerned authorities to remain alert today and tomorrow in view of this weather advisory.

Karachi is also likely to receive rain spell tonight.

Meanwhile, rain-thundershowers with gusty winds occurred at scattered places of Punjab, lower Sindh, eastern Balochistan and Malakand division.

Rainfall recorded in various cities: Jhang 95 millimeter, Sibbi 55, Sahiwal 49, Moen-jo-Daro 35, Shaheed Benazirabad 24, Toba Tek Singh 21 and Rahimyar Khan 15 millimeter.

Rain-thundershowers with isolated heavy falls and gusty winds are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad divisions, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, lower Sindh, FATA and Kashmir during the next twelve hours.

Rain-thundershowers with isolated heavy falls and gusty winds may also occur at scattered places of Sahiwal, Multan, Bahawalpur, DG Khan, Larkana, Sukkur, Zhob, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Kalat divisions and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Temperature of some major cities recorded this morning was: Islamabad 25 °C, Lahore 27 °C, Karachi 32 °C, Peshawar 28 °C, Quetta 22 °C, Gilgit 20 °C, Murree 18 °C and Muzaffarabad 21 °C.
