Spanish soccer star, Gerard Pique breaks silence on the much-public split with ex-girlfriend, Latin pop star Shakira.
After nine months of publicly announcing their break-up, Pique, for the first time, opened up on the split, termed ‘much difficult’ by his former partner.

In a new interview, the sportsman confirmed that despite being affected by the separation, he would not try to clean his image in public. Speaking about his roles and responsibilities as a father to Milan and Sasha, Pique said, “Everyone has their responsibility to do what’s best for their kids. It’s about protecting them. That’s the job of all parents with their kids. That’s what I’m focused on and that’s my role as a father.”

When further quizzed about Shakira and separation, the footballer refused to comment and replied, “I don’t want to.”
Pique also touched upon his new relationship with Clara Chia Marti, who he was allegedly dating while being with Shakira and went Instagram official in January this year.

“The problem is how people perceive things or how the press packages it. I’m still doing what I want. I want to be faithful to myself. I’m not gonna waste money on cleaning up my image,” he told the interviewer.
“The people that I love and worry about are the people that know me. The rest, I don’t care. I’m putting my energy on the people that are closest to me and giving them what I have. I’m very happy. There’s been changes in my life and I’ve known how to preserve that happiness.”

It is pertinent to mention that the Latin performer, Shakira and star soccer player Gerard Pique announced their split in June last year with a joint statement via their PR agency.
Shakira, 45, and Pique, 35, had been together since 2011 and share two sons, Milan and Sasha.
