ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari on Friday said the government would soon launch a campaign to provide women free legal aid regarding inheritance.
“We have already started awareness drive regarding the women’s right to inheritance and launching another drive to provide free legal aid soon,” she said while talking to Swedish Ambassador for Human Rights, Democracy and Rule of Law Annika Ben David and Ambassador of Sweden Ingrid Johansson who called on her here in Islamabad.
Shireen Mazari, while showing her commitment to ensure the protection of rights of every citizen without any discrimination, has said that the government was committed to protect the human rights including the rights of minorities and women.
She also apprised the Swedish ambassador about the commitment of the government to implement the prevailing laws and introducing the new laws including the awareness drive regarding the women’s right to inheritance.
“We are committed to safeguard the rights of our citizens,” she further added.
Both the sides also discussed in detail various human rights issues and concerns and how they were tackling those issues in Pakistan and Sweden.

Matters related to the rights of Muslim community residing in some states of the European Union also came under discussion.
The Swedish ambassador for human rights appreciated the endeavours of the government for the steps being taken to ensure the protection of rights in Pakistan.
Dr Mazari told her that Sweden was the first country in the world to pursue a feminist foreign policy. “I was already aware of the Swedish government’s feminist foreign policy – a first of its kind,” she further added.
