By far, the present Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has been the most liked army official in the history of Pakistan. People admire him for his bravery, determination, and compassion. He is not someone who lacks decision.
Life and fights as a soldier in Pakistan army
Born on 16 June 1956 in Quetta, General Raheel Sharif owns Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military), Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military) awards to his credit.
COAS is the younger sibling of Major Shabbir Sharif, NH, SJ and Captain Mumtaz Sharif, Sbt.
He passed out from the Pakistan Military Academy with 54th PMA Long Course and was later commissioned in Oct 1976 in the battle hardened and the ‘6th Battalion The Frontier Force Regiment’ in which his elder brother embraced martyrdom.
General Sharif also remained active in Gilgit in an Infantry Brigade and served as Adjutant of Pakistan Military Academy as an officer.
After completing Company Commander’s Course from Germany, he served in the prestigious School of Infantry and Tactics as an instructor. General Sharif is also a prominent graduate of the Command and Staff College Canada.

COAS has served as the Brigade Major of an Infantry Brigade and has commanded two infantry units of ‘6 Frontier Force Regiment at Kashmir’ along LOC and ‘26 Frontier Force Regiment’ along the Sialkot Border.
He also attended Armed Forces War Course at National Defence University, Islamabad in 1998 while continuing on the faculty of the Command and Staff College, Quetta.
As a Brigadier, General Sharif has commanded two Infantry Brigades, including an Independent Infantry Brigade Group.
He has had the honour of being the Chief of Staff of two Corps, i.e. 30 Corps and 12 Corps. General Sharif is also a graduate of the Royal College of Defence Studies, United Kingdom.
COAS has been the General Officer Commanding of an Infantry Division and the Commandant of prestigious Pakistan Military Academy.
As a Lieutenant General, he has served as Corps Commander 30 Corps for two years ahead of taking over as an Inspector General Training and Evaluation.
Since November 27, 2013 – when General Raheel Sharif was appointed as Pakistan’s 15th COAS – Pakistan army has been flourishing under his leadership with a huge number of victories in the battlefields.
Besides, the chief is an ardent reader who enjoys hunting and swimming.
