Pakistan Super League (PSL) has released a video chit-chat with Quetta Gladiators bowler Mohammad Nawaz and Peshawar Zalmi player Hasan Ali discussing that last over in the first play-off of PSL 2017 which kept spectators at the edge of their seats till the last ball.
Zalmi were supposed to win on the batting-friendly pitch as they required only three runs in the last three balls with skipper Darren Sammy and Chris Jordan on board.
Nawaz bowled fourth ball of his over and Jordan was caught behind. Hasan said the ball drifted in the other direction. Nawaz nodded recklessly “yeah, little bit”.
On the other ball, Wahab Riaz tried to take run, but was easily run out by wicket keeper Sarfraz Ahmed.
Now, Nawaz was bowling while Hasan Ali was at the receiving end on the last ball. Ali’s abortive effort to lift the yorker by swinging his bat at 180 degree and then running for score ended with run out by the same keeper.
Hasan Ali was asked, “What was the plan before the last ball?”
He said he was under pressure and wanted to take two runs, however Nawaz came out lucky as his ball hit his pad.
“Nawaz, were you lucky?,” Nawaz was asked.
He said you may call it so, but the truth is that the ball got inside-edge and Ali could not even take a single run which could have tied the match.
Hasan Ali said he thought Nawaz would hurl the ball on good length, but he cunningly bowled yorker.
“I had no option to throw the ball, but a yorker, because of dew factor,” said Nawaz.
