PM’s sons Hussain, Hassan Nawaz fail to appear before JIT

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s sons, Hussain Nawaz and Hassan Nawaz, on Wednesday failed to appear before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing against the Sharif family in the Panama Papers case.

Both sons of the prime minister will summoned to appear on Thursday. All arrangements were made and a heavy police contingent was deployed outside the judicial academy. However, both brothers failed to turn up before the JIT.

The JIT headed by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) additional director general Wajid Zia was to resume its proceedings at the Federal Judicial Academy to quiz the PM’s sons with regard to the family’s London properties.

This was supposed to be the first appearance for Hassan Nawaz. However, Hussain Nawaz had already appeared twice before the JIT.

A day before the JIT had grilled Hussain Nawaz for six hours to establish the money trail behind the London properties.

The JIT had also recorded the statement of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) Chief Executive Officer Saeed Ahmed.

Special security arrangements had been made around the academy and roads leading to it were cordoned off to prevent any untoward incident.

Talking to reporters after his appearance on Tuesday, Hussain Nawaz said that he had answered all the questions asked by the JIT. He said that he will submit any documents when asked by them.

The PM’s son said that he appeared as the JIT was formed after a legal process, and he has presented for accountability and was answering all relevant questions.

He said, he has respect for the law, and will reappear before the JIT when asked to do so. However, he said that he would seek help from the Supreme Court if he feels any bias or prejudice against him.
