ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s younger son Hassan Nawaz on Friday made his first appearance before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the Sharif family in the Panama Papers case.
Hassan Nawaz reached the Judicial Academy after being summoned to appear before the investigation team, along with at least three files of documents. He was questioned for more than six hours by the JIT team.
The younger Sharif did not speak to the media and left immediately afterwards. The elder son Hussain Nawaz will make his fourth appearance before the team on Saturday.
A large number of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) supporters were present outside the Judicial Academy, raising slogans in favour of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
The JIT had earlier summoned Hassan Nawaz on May 31, but he didn’t record his statement due to legal reasons and had requested some time. Hussain Nawaz had said that his brother Hassan’s businesses were different from him.
The JIT headed by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) additional director general Wajid Zia resumed proceedings at the Federal Judicial Academy to quiz the PM’s son with regard to the family’s London properties.
The JIT had also recorded the statement of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) Chief Executive Officer Saeed Ahmed in a marathon session of questioning.
Talking to reporters after his appearance on Tuesday, Hussain Nawaz said that he had answered all the questions asked by the JIT. He said that he will submit any documents when asked by them.
The PM’s son said that he appeared as the JIT was formed after a legal process.
He said, he has respect for the law, and will reappear before the JIT when asked to do so. However, he said that he would seek help from the Supreme Court if he feels any bias or prejudice against him.
