Hindus in Pakistan might be in minority but they do celebrate the festival of Holi with zeal and fervour. Thousands of Hindus take part in the festivities of the Hindu festival in Karachi alone. The colourful festival kicked off at the same day as Pakistan Day, as people doused themselves in various vibrant colours. Sweets were also distributed among participants who were overjoyed on the occasion of the event.
In Lahore, the festival was celebrated with equal zeal and zest, as participants pointed out that Holi had received more pomp and show owing to the occasion of Pakistan Day. The day kicked off at the city’s Krishna Mandir with the traditional Hindu worship after which people decorated each other with colours.
In Multan as well people threw colour at each other as a mark of celebration and enjoyed the occasion. Sukkur was no different as students of Ghulam Muhammad Mahar Medical College also threw colours at each other in celebration.
PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari will reach Umarkot today to participate in the function and will also hold a public gathering. Sindh government has declared today a holiday in respect of Holi, a first time in the history of Pakistan where previously only Hindus were granted a public holiday on the occasion of this festival.
In the recent past, a resolution had been passed in the National Assembly which had called for declaring Easter, Holi and Diwali public holidays for the minorities.
