ISLAMABAD: The Interior Ministry on Friday approved Federal Investigation Agency (FIA)’s suggestion to file a formal request with the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) for issuing ‘Red Warrant’ to arrest three suspects in MQM leader Dr Imran Farooq murder case.
The suspects have been identified as Anwar Hussain, Iftekhar Hussain and Kashif Khan.
After obtaining permission and going through the required paperwork, sources at FIA said that Pakistan would formally contact Interpol to issue a ‘red notice’ against all three MQM-L suspects, seeking their extradition to Pakistan.
Dr Imran Farooq, 50, was one of the MQM’s founding members killed in a knife attack in Edgware, northwest London in September 2010.
In December 2015, the FIA had registered a case against MQM founder and other party leaders in the murder of former MQM leader Dr Imran Farooq.
The case was filed by FIA’s counter-terrorism wing in Islamabad under sections 302, 34, 109, 120B of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
These sections pertain to conspiracy, assistance, abetment and ultimately assassination/murder.
Interpol is international criminal police which assists national police departments in identifying and locating wanted persons for lawful action.
