PM orders early activation of online agri-dashboard to monitor food prices

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed concerned authorities to remove hurdles for activating the online agri-dashboard to monitor food prices, ARY News reported on Thursday.

Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired a meeting on the progress of the online agri-dashboard and the monitoring dashboard of projects and agreements signed during the premier’s visits abroad.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Food Security Syed Fakhar Imam, National Security Advisor Dr Moeed Yusuf, SAPM Jamshed Iqbal Cheema, SAPM Dr Shahbaz Gill and concerned officials.

The participants reviewed the progress of an online agri-dashboard designed to monitor food prices across the country. The federal government will be able to control the rising prices of essential commodities with the help of the online agri-dashboard.

Under the prime minister’s vision of focusing on food security, with real-time statistics of demand and consumption the agri-dashboard for agricultural commodities will help the government identify and avoid any food crises in a timely manner.

With the support of the provincial governments, the agri-dashboard will also ensure controlling the prices of food consumables.

It has been directed for early completion of the final stages of the agri-dashboard and making it fully operational at the earliest. During the meeting, the premier was also apprised regarding the steps being taken for improving the genetic diversity of the livestock.

PM Imran Khan said that food security was among the top priorities of the federal government and steps are being taken to modernise the agriculture sector to increase crop productivity for meeting the country’s needs.

The premier said that prices will fall down after increasing the production of milk and meat.

It may be noted here that PM Imran Khan had approved the development of the online agri-dashboard by National Security Division to monitor the prices of food and availability of commodities’ stocks at national, provincial and district levels.

The online agri-dashboard will be an important tool for preventing the country from facing a food crisis besides stopping profiteering and hoarding.

During the meeting, Dr Moeed Yusuf briefed the meeting about the prime minister’s visits abroad and the dashboard set up to monitor the implementation of agreements reached with foreign leaders in Pakistan.

The dashboard will not only keep track of the details of the premier’s visits but will also assist in monitoring the implementation of agreements and decisions. The dashboard will also ensure speedy implementation of agreements by removing barriers faced by ministries.

PM Imran Khan said that obstacles to timely implementation of agreements reached during overseas visits would be identified and remedied so that there would be no delay in completion of projects which are important in the national interest.
