ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan has demanded to replace the governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Iqbal Zafar Jhagra with immediate effect.
In a letter written to Prime Minister Justice retd Nasirul Mulk, the PTI chairman raised reservations over the role of KP Governor which can affect the upcoming elections.
Imran Khan pointed out that Jhagra continued to hold financial administrative powers over the now-defunct Federally Administered Tribal Areas, and also continues to intervene in the political affairs of the region particularly by controlling the financial strings.
He further said that Jhagra also played a partisan role in KP, and that free and fair elections would be threatened if he continues to hold office.
Imran Khan also stated that the KP governor was appointment by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government, and along with other bureaucrats, was covertly seeking to influence the outcome of upcoming elections.
He added the no changes were made in the bureaucracy, and the officers appointed by PML-N in Punjab and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in Sindh were making political statements and ensuring there was no space left for any other political party.
The PTI chief also stated that the caretaker governments of respective provinces were moving at an extremely slow pace to rectify the situation, and the caretaker federal government should intervene.
Therefore, he said that direct and immediate action should be taken to replace Jhagra and remove other anomalies that would hinder the process of free and fair elections.
