World Cup 2023: India beat Afghanistan by eight wickets

NEW DELHI: Pacer Jasprit Bumrah and skipper Rohit Sharma led India to thump Afghanistan by eight wickets, successfully chasing the 273-run target during the ICC World Cup 2023 clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi today.

Along with Ishan Kishan, Sharma built an opening partnership of 156 runs.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma played a blistering innings and scored 131 off 84 balls. Kishan scored 47 off 47, whereas, Viral Kohli scored not out 55 and Shreyas Iyer not out 25.

Afghanistan then finally found a moment to cherish in the 19th over when their star spinner Rashid Khan got rid of Ishan Kishan, who scored a run-a-ball 47 with the help of five boundaries and two sixes.

Sharma was sent back to the pavilion in the 25th over by Rashid Khan. Not a single bowler except Rashid Khan managed to take a wicket against India.

Earlier, Afghanistan put a valiant 272 on board against India after winning the toss and deciding to bat first in their World Cup 2023 clash here at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.

Afghanistan lost three wickets on the collective score of 63 but thanks to skipper Hashmat Shahidi and Azmat Omarzai who scored 80 and 62 runs respectively.
