The schoolgirls took the women’s doubles title, beating Natalia Partyka and Katarzyna Grzybowski of Poland 11-7, 11-6, 11-4, 11-5, to claim a $40,000 share of the prize money.
The Japan teens had already defeated the Polish women at the German Open this year and Ito said “we knew we could beat them, but of course this was a new match and it was a very special match.”
“We are going to buy lots and lots of presents for our family and friends, we are so excited about this money,” added Ito.
