According to Times of India, accused Sarita Devi, who had allegedly thrown the new-born baby boy of her sister-in-law Alka from the first floor of the hospital, has been arrested.
The incident was captured on the CCTV camera.
Accused Sarla, mother of three daughters, has confessed to her crime and stated that she did this out of `jealousy’ as she had no son.
Police said: “The baby boy Anmol was admitted to Shyam Maternity and Children’s Hospital in Indira Nagar, Kalyanpur, a few days ago for septicaemia. Owing to some important work, his father, Sarvesh Kumar of Tirwa Kannauj, and mother Alka had gone to their native village, leaving the boy under the care of his aunt Sarita Devi.”
Around 5 am, Sarita raised an alarm about the child missing from the paediatric ward of the hospital.
She alerted the hospital authorities, who informed the police. During the search operation, the police heard cries of a baby coming from the adjacent block of the hospital.
On a closer look, the police found the infant entangled in an iron grill some 30 ft below the roof. A ward boy climbed down and brought the infant out. The condition of the infant is critical.
“Anmol got entangled in the grill. The baby was critically injured and struggling hard to breathe. By the grace of God, he didn’t fall on the ground,” wardboy Pankaj Katiyar said.
The complaint was lodged with the police and the accused woman was later arrested.
