Karachi artists design cultural dresses inspired by tea for UK exhibition

KARACHI: Local designers showcased their dresses earlier this week at an evening arranged by Pakistan British Council (PBC), where their works will be chosen for an exhibition at the 75th anniversary of Pak-UK relations in September this year, ARY News reported.

In the Pakistan-UK New Perspectives Season, PBC said it sought to facilitate the professional collaboration for culture, creative and education sectors between the United Kingdom and Pakistan.

Pakistani designers Yousuf Bashir Qureshi and Riffat Aliani displayed traditional dresses produced under them for the Birmingham 2022 Festival. They were reached out by a UK designer Joey A Frenette, who PBC said, wanted to explore the influence of journeys along the silk road and the history of tea.

The festival later this year will celebrate the beauty, colour, and diversity that makes up British horticulture and culture,” said a PBC statement.

Organized under the umbrella of PBC and PoliNations partnership, the evening took place in Karachi’s Commune Artist Colony and had artists over, including sitar player Rakae Jamil.
