Sindh govt transfers key departments to DMCs before Karachi mayor takes charge

The provincial government has transferred departments of Health, Education and Local Taxes to the DMCs.

Notification in this regard has been issued by the Sindh government. Following the transfer of powers, analyst say, would make Karachi mayor powerless.

Commissioner Karachi said the decision was taken in view of the relevant law.

Talking to ARY News, Sindh local Government Minister Jam Khan Shoro said local government duties were clearly detailed in the law. He rejected the impression that provincial government was encroaching anyone’s authority.

He said mayor had powers to carry out development works, civil defense maintenance etc. He said chairmen of DMCs would also have powers and mayor alone won’t be dealing all the affairs.

He said Sindh Government Act of 2013 clearly defines powers of all individuals and departments. “No one should raise objections on it.”
