KARACHI: The population of Karachi has been counted 20.382 million in recent digital census and the city will likely to get an extra National Assembly and three Sindh Assembly seats, citing sources ARY News reported on Tuesday.
“Karachi’s District South will get an extra NA seat,” sources said. “The city’s Central, East and West districts will get an extra provincial legislature seat each,” sources further said.
Karachi East has become population-wise largest district of the metropolis and Keamari smallest district of the city, according to the Census count.
District East has 39,50,051 mln population in the digital census.
District Central has been 2nd largest district with 38,22,325 population.
District Korangi has total 31,28,971 population according to census results.
District West has 26,79,380 population count, Malir district has 24,03,959, population count in District South has been 23,00,029, and in Keamari District 20,68,000 in the population census.
The federal government on Monday notified the results of the seventh census after approval from the Council of Common Interests (CCI).
According to a notification, Pakistan’s population has crossed 241 million including 147.7 million rural and 93.7 million urban population.
Province-wise, Punjab’s population has reached 127.7 million, and Sindh’s population is recorded at 55.6 million, as per the results of the digital census.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s population has been 40.8 million, while Balochistan’s population was recorded at 14.8 million, the notification said and added Islamabad’s population has reached 2.36 million.
According to these figures, the population of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa increased by 2.38 percent, Punjab 2.53 percent, Sindh 2.57 percent and Balochistan 3.2 percent.
