Chairman of Karachi Traders Alliance, Ateeq Mir on Tuesday said that the trade fraternity will not accept any argument by the provincial government ‘at the expense of peace’.
“We fully condemn Sindh government’s measures against peace in the megapolis,” he said, paying tributes to Rangers personnel for their exemplary performance for the restoration of peace in the city.
He said the Rangers should be given special powers to act anywhere across the province in order to eradicate crime.
In the meeting of representatives from different trade unions, Mir appealed Army Chief General Raheel Sharif to intervene.
The traders at the meeting expressed fears that efforts are being made to turn the situation of the city ‘horrific’ like it was before 2013.
They said that the incidents of extortion, kidnappings for ransom decreased by 90 percent, while the atmosphere of fear within trade centers was ended.
The traders demanded Sindh government to put aside political interests and to keep restoration of peace prior.
They warned of staging sit-ins at major thoroughfares of the city if the Rangers powers were not extended after laying siege to the Sindh Assembly.
