Dr Waheedur Rehman, an Assistant Professor of Karachi University’s mass communication department was targeted in Federal B Area.
Late Dr. Waheedur Rehman was also known as Yasir Rizvi. He was a resident of Lateef Square in F.B. Area and targeted by the gunmen after he left his residence, police said.
He received a bullet to his head and another to his shoulder and died on the spot, police officials said.
The body of Prof. Waheedur Rehman was being shifted to the hospital as police reached the crime scene for investigations.

The funeral prayers of Syed Waheedur Rehman will be offered at Masjid-e-Ghufran at Water Pump area after Maghrib prayers today, family sources said.
Dr. Syed Waheedur Rehman did his doctorate from the Federal Urdu University and taught at the university before moving to Karachi University.
A former student of the slain professor shed light on his teacher’s conduct and professional capacities. Describing him as a teacher who had hands-on experience of the subject he was teaching, Syed Wahidur Rehman reported for Ummat newspaper for 13 years. He served as Assitant Professor of Federal Urdu University for 6 years and since the past three years, he was responsible for coordinating and conducting all events at Karachi University.
The student described the late Professor as a gentleman who was very kind and respectable towards his students. Students who had passed on and
graduated from Karachi University, frequently showed up at the university just to meet with him. When confronted with problems, his students used to turn to him and he always had important, useful advice for them. Syed Wahidur Rehman had no political affiliations neither did he harbor any enmity towards anyone, he said. People from all walks of life and with political affiliations used to respect and admire him just like everyone else.
Other teachers died in Karachi killing fields
Dr Shakil Auj, the dean faculty of Islamic Studies at Karachi University, was also shot dead by unknown bike riders last year near Baitul Mukarram Mosque in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area.
Karachi Police in Jan 2015 had claimed the arrest of a suspect who had allegedly confessed to his involvement in the murders of Prof Dr Shakeel Auj and 2013 murder of Prof Syed Sibte Jafar-a poet and former principal of the Liaquatabad College.
A week before Dr Shakeel Auj another teacher of the same faculty Dr Maulana Masood Baig, was killed in a firing incident at Hyderi Market of Nazimabad.
Moreover, Professor Taqi Hadi and Dr. Javed Qazi two members of the faculty of a dental college lost their lives in the killing fields of Karachi.
The city also witnessed the murder of Muntazir Mehdi, a lecturer at Karachi’s NED Univesity of Engineering and Technology.
Recently, on April 16 Debra Lobo, an American national and Vice Principal at the Jinnah Medical and Dental College was shot and seriously injured by armed assailants in Karachi.
