Khairpur: Boat carrying 11 persons capsizes in Nara Canal

KHAIRPUR: A boat carrying 11 persons of a wedding party capsized in Nara Canal here, citing police ARY News reported on Monday.

“Local people saved five persons while a search has been underway for other people,” police sources said.

Ill-fated boat was carrying villagers of Chamar Shar from Udoi Pattan for a wedding. “All 11 persons were members of same family,” police added.

Governor Sindh has taken notice of the boat capsize incident in Nara Canal and directed local authorities to use all available sources for search of the drowned people.

Strong winds upturned a fishing boat in Arabian Sea in August this year leaving at least one fisherman dead and scores of others injured.

“There were 16 fishermen in the boat,” a spokesman of the Coastal Media Centre said. “All fishermen of the ill-fated boat were natives of the coastal settlement of Ibrahim Haideri in Karachi,” he added.

“A rescue operation has been underway to get the fishermen stranded in the sea to safety,” he said.

“The fisherman died in the mishap has been identified as Muhammad,”spokesman added.
