Zalmay Khalilzad thanks Pakistan for supporting Afghan peace process

WASHINGTON: The United States Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad on Saturday lauded the role of Pakistan for regional stability and Afghan peace talks.

Zalmay Khalilzad took to the twitter saying that he just had wrapped up two days in Islamabad and thanked Pakistan for its recent efforts supporting the Afghan peace process.

He also appreciated Islamabad for re-affirming the understanding that Afghans alone would determine their future.

The US envoy said,” Always more work to be done.”

Earlier, US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay

Khalilzad, on April 5, had called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said. ISPR had said in a statement that Zalmay Khalilzad had visited General Headquarters (GHQ) and held an important meeting with the Army Chief.

Both high-ups had exchanged views on matters relating to regional security and ongoing Afghanistan reconciliation process.

The US envoy had acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace across the region.

Khalilzad had also held a meeting with Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi earlier to brief him about progress in the Afghan peace process.
