KMC issues health advisory for heatwave in Karachi

KARACHI: Viewing possible heatwave, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) on Tuesday issued a health advisory for safety of masses, ARY News reported.

The health advisory issued by KMC’s Senior Director for Health Services Dr Birbal Genani asked people to drink more water in the current weather.

“Cover your head. Do not unnecessarily go out of your house between 11:00am and 3:00pm. Wear light dress,” said the health advisory.

In May last year, the spell of heatwave had left residents of Karachi utterly drained as the mercury touched 44 degree Celsius on the scale.

The

relentless hot winds in the city were whipping the city as humidity level had reduced to 40 – 50 %. Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had warned that the recent heatwave might prolong till Thursday, and from Friday, the weather in the port city might recede to 38-40 degree Celsius.

The weather condition in other parts of Pakistan was persistently hot. With 50 degree Celsius, Turbat, Lasbela, Larkana and Moenjodaro were sizzling with the highest temperature in Pakistan.

Multiple heatwave camps had been set up alongside roads in different parts of Karachi to provide immediate medical and physical help to the people suffering the brunt of the searing weather.
