Lawyers’ protest for regional high court benches continue for 20th day

GUJRANWALA: The lawyers protest for their demand of the regional benches of Lahore High Court has been continued for the 20th day here, ARY News reported on Monday.

The Punjab Bar Council has announced boycott of the court proceedings until December 09 to press for the lawyers demand of formation of the regional benches in various divisions of Punjab.

The lawyers have locked out all courts and also closed the D.C. office and the District Public Prosecutor’s office in Gujranwala.

Protesting lawyers have also blocked the Sialkot Road for vehicular traffic by erecting hurdles.

The lawyers’ associations have set up a hunger strike camp outside the Gujranwala Sessions Court for last five days.

Gujranwala Bar’s President Noor Mirza has said that the lawyers will also close the Tehsil Office today. He announced to hold a protest rally of lawyers today.

The lawyers’ strike has installed court proceedings causing hardships for the people arriving courts for their cases.

Recently, infuriated lawyers had torched tyres in Sahiwal, and staged sit-in and blocked roads for traffic.

The lawyers’ associations protesting for their demand for high court benches in their respective regions.

They are asking for circuit benches to ensure speedy and cheaper justice for the people of their regions.

The lawyers are demanding establishment of regional benches of high court in Gujranwala, Sahiwal, Faisalabad and Sargodha and D.G. Khan divisions.
