SARGODHA: The strike of Sargodha district bar’s lawyers on Thursday entered into its second day demanding establishment of a Lahore High Court (LHC) bench in Faisalabad to ensure speedy and cheaper justice to the residents of the region.
The protesting lawyers blocked vehicular traffic on the road in front of the sessions court here and chanted slogans in favor of their demand.
“The lawyers will not appear in court until acceptance of their demands “, said secretary of the local bar.
Yesterday, agitated lawyers stormed the court premises and started vandalizing property including the district officer’s room.
The police officials deputed at main gate of the court had closed the gate keeping in view severity of the situation, but the protesters stormed into the court premises and damaged chairs and other property.
They had boycotted the day’s proceedings and closed the gates of the court and stopped petitioners from entering into court’s premises.
Several infuriated lawyers had also broken into the deputy commissioner’s office, creating a disturbance.
Earlier in month of August , 2017, the lawyers had protested against issuance of arrest warrants against their colleague outside Lahore High Court (LHC) at Mall Road.
Enraged lawyers pelted stones on the personnel of anti-riot police unit, forcing them to fire tear gas shells and water cannons to scatter them.
