According to Indian media, the incident took place when nine bogies of the train derailed as near the South-Indian city.
Scores of rescue teams arrived at the scene and shifted the injured to hospitals for treatment.
It should be noted that trains are one of the most popular way of transport in India whereas the country has one of the biggest railway networks in the world.
