At least ten people injured in anti-India protests in Kashmir on Eid

SRINAGAR: At least ten people were injured as protesters brandishing Pakistani flags clashed with Indian government forces in India-held Kashmir after Eid prayers, Indian media reported.

The clash erupted soon after tens of thousands of people poured out of the Eidgah – a large ground located in downtown Srinagar – after offering Eid prayers. The Indian forces fired tear gas shells and pellet guns at stone-throwing protesters that resulted in injuries to at least ten people. The forces were also reported to have detained some pro-freedom Kashmiris to defuse the situation.

Clashes were also reported in the Sopore, Anantnag, Rajpora, Shopian and Safkadal and other areas of the city.

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti described it a shameful incident and said the police “are showing maximum restraint because they think they are dealing with their own people, but for how long this will continue… It will be difficult if they lose patience.”

However, the  Chairman of Hurriyet forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a tweet said, “It has been eight years now on this Eid that I have not been allowed to offer Eid prayers and deliver Eid sermon at the Eidgah by the shameless and coward government.”
