Liquor, mobile phone smuggling bid foiled at Karachi airport

KARACHI: Customs officials foiled a bid to smuggle illegal liquor and mobile phones at Jinnah International Airport Karachi, ARY News reported on Monday.

Sources said that the Customs staff stopped a passenger namely Shehryar Amjad Barar travelling from Dubai to Karachi – on the basis of suspicion at Jinnah International Airport and confiscated mobile phones and liquor worth more than Rs10 million.

The customs officials confiscated 68 mobile phones and eight bottles of liquor and 212 packets of food supplements from the passenger’s baggage.

“The passenger was trying to smuggle the mobile phones, liquor and food supplements to avoid the taxes,” the Customs spokesperson said.

The passenger was arrested and a case was registered under the Customs Act.
