Sindh: University student disappears, claims reaching ‘land of Khilafat’

HYDERABAD: A female student of Jamshoro city’s Liaquat Medical University who went missing a month ago has sent a message to her brother that she has ‘reached the land of Khilafah’, ARY News reported on Friday.

According to ARY News Hyderabad correspondent, the girl named Naureen left her Hyderabad home on February 10 and was missing since then but her brother received a message from another girl’s Facebook profile today that the girl has reached some ‘Land of Khilafah’.

“Brother, I am Naureen, I hope yo all are fine, I am fine and happy too, I have contacted you to inform you that by the grace of God, I have migrated to the land of Khilafah and hope that you all will someday migrate (to this land),” read the message reportedly sent by Naureen.

‘Facebook Account Blocked’

SSP Hyderabad Irfan Baloch told ARY News that the girl took a bus ticket last month and left for Lahore and expressed fear that the girl was in contact with extremist groups.

“She held extremist views and Facebook had blocked her account for the same reason,” added the SSP.

The girl’s father Abdul Jabbar, however denied the impression that his daughter had extremist views or that she left the home on her own free will.

“If she had any plans to migrate, she would have taken some money or clothes but she didn’t even take her toothpaste with her,” said the father.

Abdul Jabbar said that he thinks his daughter is kidnapped.

The varsity’s vice chancellor Naushad Ahmed Sheikh claimed that the university management hasn’t allowed extremist groups to work in the institution but “the girl’s Facebook messages show that she has gone to work with some terrorist group”.

SSP Irfan Baloch was adamant that the girl left for Lahore on her own free will and police is investigating the matter.

“People who leave homes willingly are difficult to find but still we will interrogate her fellow passengers and take all possible measures to resolve the case,” said Baloch.

Naureen Jabbar was a second year student of MBBS at the LMU.
