‘London taunt’ sparks scuffles among MQM, PPP lawmakers in Sindh Assembly

The ruckus erupted when a Pakistan People’s Party lawmaker in its speech indirectly taunted Mutahidda Qaumi Movement with a reference of ‘London’  – a city where MQM chief Altaf Hussain resides.

The point stirred up hornet’s nest among MQM benches and their lawmakers shouted in anger and rose up their seats.

One of the MQM legislators Azeem Farooqui approached the speaker’s dais, criticizing PPP lawmakers. In equally charged up tone, PPP’s Mukesh Kumar Chawla also turned up and shoved and pushed his opponent, only to grabbed by their party members from further losing their temper.

MQM’s leader of the opposition Khwaja Izharul Hasan also tried to pacify the situation, but in vain.

Later speaking to media, he said the issue resulted due to misunderstanding.

Talking to ARY News, PPP MPA Sharmila Farooqui urged the opposition leader to advise patience to his party members and let the assembly session continue tomorrow [June 17] without any ruckus.

She believes that the House in-charge should not go to length to take action against legislators over the issue.

She, however, added that neither of sides should resort to hurl barbs on leadership of opponent parties.
