After three weeks of screening, the movie was taken off cinemas across the country for it could not meet the rulers’ choice.
The Ministry of Information issued a notification cancelling the censor certification of the movie based on corruption. With issuance of the notification, the screening of Maalik was stopped at movie theatres countrywide.
The notification, however, did not mention the reason to ban the movie.
According to director Ashir Azeem, a few of the ministers were displeased with criticism of government in the flick.
He went on to say that after the Sindh government’s objection, the word chief minister or CM was replaced with a ‘beep’ across the reel.
Yesterday, the Sindh government also banned the screening of Maalik in the province, but reversed the decision shortly afterwards.
