KARACHI: The negligence of K-Electric has taken another life in Karachi as a man died of electrocution amid a fresh spell of heavy rain here on Monday, ARY News reported.
The electrocution incident took place in Karachi’s Malir area today as heavy rainfall lashed different areas of the metropolis.
According to rescue sources, the man, identified as Munir, was electrocuted to death after he accidentally touched an electric pole during rainfall.
His body was moved to Jinnah hospital for medico-legal formalities, according to rescue officials.
Parts of Karachi on Monday received heavy to moderate rainfall with the Met Office forecasting that suburb areas of the city will receive downpours till tomorrow.
According to details, the areas that witnessed heaving rainfall along with gusty winds included Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Saddar, Bin Qasim, Razzaqabad, Superhighway, Nooriabad, Kathore, Malir, Landhi, Korangi, Gulsitan-e-Jauhar, locality surrounding Karachi airport and other areas.
Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz said in the forecast made for the day that the weather will remain hot and humid and the temperatures could soar to 37C.
K-Electric clarification
While expressing grief over reports of 2 electrocution incidents that occurred in Baldia Town and Malir Kala Board respectively, the company’s spokesperson said, “Our deepest condolences are with the bereaved family members of the victims. As per initial investigations, the electrocution incident in Baldia Town occurred inside a shop, while the incident in Malir Kala board took place due to a streetlight pole.”
“No K-Electric infrastructure was involved in the cases, and grounding and earthing of all utility installations at incident sites were found completely intact. It is also important to note that the responsibility of installing and maintaining street light poles rests with the concerned civic authorities.”
