KP police want PTI councillor’s name on ECL in Mashal lynching case

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police on Thursday requested Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to add the name of PTI councillor on Exit Control List (ECL) for his suspected involvement in Mashal Khan lynching incident after reportedly being at large, ARY News reported.

The man has been identified as PTI councillor Arif Khan in the light of a video, which surfaced after the lynching incident of 23-year-old Journalism student at Abdul Wali Khan University (AWKU) in Mardan.

The video showed Arif Khan directing the mob to keep the name of the person in secret who shot Mashal Khan.

District Police Officer Mardan Dr. Mian Saeed apprised media that the provincial police have sought help of FIA to make Arif Khan’s arrest possible.

It should be recalled here that Arif Khan was thought to be arrested earlier but the police officials later confirmed a person with similar name – employee of the university – was arrested instead.

On Tuesday, senior Awami National Party (ANP) leader Bushra Gohar also tweeted that the suspect was still at large and that a PTI legislator was trying to assist him escape to Thailand.


Subsequently, the police officials claimed that Arif Khan could not go abroad as his passport had been expired and that they were still on his trail.

The suspect was last believed to be on the run in Mohmand Agency.
