Mashal Khan’s shooter arrested, says DIG Mardan

MARDAN: DIG Police Mardan Muhammad Alam Shinwari has apprised media that the main suspect of Mashal Khan lynching case who fired two bullets at 23-year-old journalism student in Abdul Wali Khan University (AWKU) has been arrested, ARY News reported.

The shooter was identified as Imran who was reportedly studying alongside the lynching victim.

The DIG Mardan apprised the media that the weapon used in the incident was also recovered from accused Imran’s possession and the suspect has made a confessional statement.

Shedding light on the matter, Shinwari said that it has been learnt through the investigation that the deceased had some disputes with University administration while giving an impression that the administration was involved in the lynching incident.

The DIG further said a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has been formed to probe the matter from all aspects.

Confirming arrests of 47 key suspects for their involvement in coldblooded murder, he said that two other suspects were at large and might have taken shelter in Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA).

It is worth mentioning here that Supreme Court directed Khyber Pakthunkhwa police yesterday to ward off any possible intervention in Mashal Khan lynching case and probe it without excessive delay.
